Privacy
Short version: there are no accounts, no cookies and no tracking. If you just play, your progress stays in your browser and we only count games anonymously. If you join a group, the group sees your nickname and your scores — nothing else.
If you just play
Your streak, your statistics and today’s guesses are kept in your browser’s localStorage. That data stays on your device and we cannot read it. Clearing your browser data deletes it permanently.
To know how many games are played, your browser sends a short anonymous note when you start and finish a puzzle: the mode, the day, your score, number of guesses and current streak, and whether this is your first game today. It carries no player ID, and we do not store your IP address or anything about your device, so it cannot be linked to you or to your other games. These counts are deleted after about a year.
If you join a group
Groups are optional. When you create or join one, we store:
- the group’s name and a random ID for the link,
- the nickname you chose for that group,
- a random player ID, and a scrambled (hashed) version of a secret key kept in your browser,
- your score in Classic, Emoji and Connections for each day, and your number of guesses in Classic and Emoji.
We do not store your email, your real name, your IP address or anything about your device. Other members of your group see your nickname and scores. Nobody else does — group pages are not listed or indexed.
Leaving a group removes you from it straight away. A group nobody has played in for 90 days is deleted automatically, together with its scores. Your group membership is remembered by your browser, so on a new device you simply join again with the same link.
Group data is stored with Cloudflare, which runs the small server behind groups.
Analytics
We use privacy-friendly, cookie-free analytics to count page views. No cookies are set, no personal data is collected, and visitors are not tracked across sites.
If you email us about a data error, we keep that message only as long as it takes to fix the problem. To have your group data removed, write to hello@douzle.org with your group link and nickname.
